Why indeed? A blog dedicated to rebutting a witless religion columnist from a major magazine with an online presence that publishes comments? Why not comment directly on Newsweek.com? Because, having effectively made the point that Lisa Miller does not know what she is talking about when she talks about religion, Newsweek has blocked my ability to post to their site. What was it that I criticized that so drew the ire of the might Newsweek Magazine? Basically, Lisa Miller criticized Pope Benedict's "unfortunate visage," and the fact that he's not as much of a showman as Pope John Paul II. I had the audacity to point out that even John Paul II would have taken the position that physical appearance and showmanship are not important qualifications for Pope, but rather, holiness and openness to God's will. Well, I did conclude that the author did not know what she was talking about and should not comment on things she has no understanding of. Well, evidently, you are free to comment all you want, as long as you don't criticize their columnists.
Well, someone has to point out how wrong Lisa Miller is about religious matters and to comment on how misguided her perspective is. Just about everything she comments on reflects a superficial understanding of religious matters, coupled with a modernist, liberal perspective, that yields some really fascinatingly idiotic arguments that are not nearly clever enough to be called sophistry. I don't think anyone with even the least bit of faith will be persuaded by such inanity, so we cannot call Lisa Miller dangerous in any way. But we should at least have a forum to comment, which is apparently unavailable to us on Newsweek.com
